CSR and biodiversity

At Storengy, we are proud to instill values around the ecological transition and to share them with the territories.

Storengy - CSR and biodiversity

As a company fully committed to the energy and ecological transition, our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives have strong ambitions around the three axes of Sustainable Development:

  • Social/Societal with dialogue and consultation with stakeholders, as well as human development
  • Environmental with the preservation of biodiversity, the development of renewable energies and energy efficiency, and adaptation to climate change
  • Economic through support for the socio-economic development of territories and the creation of sustainable value with local stakeholders, which enables us to strengthen our local roots in the regions where we operate

Through our activities, our CSR policy addresses 14 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

CSR management

Our CSR policy is at the heart of the company's strategy. It is deployed through concrete actions at all our sites in France and Europe and monitored by indicators linked to the expectations of our stakeholders and the challenges facing Storengy.

Operational management of CSR is entrusted to the CSR, Biodiversity and Territories teams, which rely on a network of local correspondents and experts to lead and implement action plans throughout the country.

Contribute to the preservation of the environment and biodiversity

In order to preserve the environment and biodiversity, and to make it a lever of socio-economic performance, we contribute to the reduction of our carbon footprint through several concrete actions:

  • In France, our voluntary commitment to biodiversity has taken concrete form since April 2014 through our membership of the National Strategy for Biodiversity (SNB). This approach allows us to perpetuate and include our actions in the vision, strategic directions and objectives defined by the SNB

In France, all the sites have adopted this approach and implemented it in concrete terms: abandoning the use of phytosanitary products, implementing ecological management of green spaces, developing local partnerships, etc.

  • Storengy commits itself to act4nature, initiative launched by the French Association of Companies for the Environment (EpE), in order to protect, enhance and restore biodiversity. By supporting act4nature, Storengy is taking the opportunity to reinforce its SNB commitment and is committed, through 12 commitments, to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity

  • The signing of a tripartite sponsorship agreement between Storengy, the ENGIE Foundation and the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), acting in the name and on behalf of the Conservatoire Botanique National du Bassin Parisien (CBNBP), has made it possible to implement the project to introduce a critically endangered species, the brook mushroom, to its Saint-Clair-sur-Epte site in the French Vexin Regional Nature Park

  • In order to strengthen its actions in terms of preserving biodiversity and restoring natural ecosystems, Storengy is today finalizing the implementation of a national agreement with the French League for the Protection of Birds. This partnership follows on from several collaborations carried out locally on certain Storengy sites, which have become "LPO Refuges"

  • With regard to its numerous industrial facilities, energy efficiency is one of Storengy's major challenges. In 2019, 100% of Storengy's storage sites in France were ISO 50 001 certified

In England, Storengy supports local councils in their efforts to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings. The Stublach site has set up a local investment fund for energy efficiency with five local councils.

In France and Germany, all the consumption of our storage sites is covered by a green electricity supply contract.

Engaging with our stakeholders

Storengy is committed to making the diversity of its profiles a strategic asset and enabling its employees to develop in a company where everyone can grow, develop and progress in complete safety.

Furthermore, Storengy is committed to ensuring that its activities benefit not only the stakeholders of the projects it develops, but also the entire region. For several years now, we have been developing a proactive approach to consultation with all our stakeholders.

  • The health and safety of employees and subcontractors is Storengy's first golden rule

  • Gender equality in the workplace is at the heart of Storengy's CSR policy. This commitment is expressed through the implementation of company agreements. We are actively involved in promoting the feminization of technical professions, in particular through our commitment to associations working to open up the field of possibilities to young girls in science, industry and engineering. For the past two years, five mentors and five relays have been working with young female students at events organized by the association Elles Bougent (Engineering Sciences for Women, Elles Bougent for Energy, Industry Week)

Storengy is also committed to the fight against sexism and sexual harassment. The company's sexism and sexual harassment advisors are mobilized to support all the company's employees.

Focus on the Professional Equality Index

In accordance with the provisions of the Avenir law of September 5, 2018 aimed at eliminating the pay gap between women and men, companies with at least 50 employees must publish their gender equality index on their website as of March 1, 2020.

In 2021, Storengy SAS obtained a score of 88 points out of 100, which is 2 points higher than in 2020.

  • Gender pay gap (in % points): 38/40
  • Difference in individual increases/promotions (in % points or equivalent number of employees): 35/35
  • Percentage of employees receiving a raise after returning from maternity leave in compliance with the law (%): 15/15
  • Number of employees of the under-represented gender in the top 10: 0/10

Professional equality between women and men is at the heart of the company's HR and CSR policy and is broken down into three areas:

  • Feminizing the technical professions
  • Ensuring professional equality
  • Fighting against sexism and sexual harassment
  • As a "handicapped-friendly" company, Storengy supports and encourages the professional integration, access and retention of disabled people. Storengy's management is committed to the development of employment and support for people with disabilities through company-wide agreements. As part of this policy, Storengy is committed to distributing the majority of its work-study and internship offers as a priority to partner associations working in this field and to the Disability Missions of its partner schools. Every year, all employees are made aware of the various forms of disability during the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities

  • In order to ensure a caring work environment, an international network of Quality of Life at Work (QWL) Advisors works on a daily basis to develop local actions and co-construct projects with employees on the sites to improve daily life at work and promote conviviality

  • Storengy also encourages its employees to get involved in solidarity and environmental projects

Each year, five employees take part in environmental projects in various countries (Ecuador, Cameroon, etc.), in coordination with local associations, through the "Leave for Change" scheme developed by the public interest organization Planète Urgence.

For the past two years, Storengy employees have also been taking part in the "Je marche pour Apprentis d'Auteuil" connected solidarity challenge (50 participants in 2018, 100 participants in 2019). The donation collected at the end of the three-week challenge is donated to the Apprentis d'Auteuil Foundation for the benefit of the Maisons des Familles.

Since 2017, a dozen Storengy employees have been involved each year as volunteers during the Salon Jeunes d'Avenirs to help young people find jobs.

  • The development of interactions with local stakeholders is also at the heart of Storengy's CSR policy. In France and the UK, 100% of Storengy's industrial sites are covered by a mechanism for dialogue and consultation with stakeholders. This dialogue also includes the systematic use of a tool to monitor and develop these interactions and to identify local issues in order to respond to them and strengthen our local roots

Our partners: ARPEJEH, Elles bougent, Planète Urgence, Fondation Apprentis d'Auteuil, Club FACE...

Supporting and accompanying the development of territories

As a player committed to the region, our CSR policy is a project to create sustainable and shared value. The actions undertaken locally must enable us to improve our positive externalities and thus contribute to the development of the regions.

  • Since 2019, as part of its responsible purchasing policy, Storengy has been using the EcoVadis platform, which facilitates the responsible management of the company's suppliers, both nationally and internationally, by sharing and monitoring their CSR performance. The aim is to ensure that Storengy's CSR issues are considered throughout the company's value chain

  • Starting in 2019, we have developed the Bee to Bio© offering. This offer supports companies in the development of their environmental and societal approach, from the realization of ecological engineering, to the recovery of green waste, through dialogue with the stakeholders of the territory. Through this service offer, it is a question of responding to several environmental challenges: preservation of biodiversity, limitation of pollution, management and saving of water, reduction and management of green waste

  • In order to better take into account and measure our social and environmental impacts, a process to calculate the creation of territorial value and the socio-economic impacts generated by the company's activity has been initiated on various pilot sites. Through this methodology, Storengy aims to improve its positive externalities at the local level, at the scale of its sites

  • To continue this work of identifying its positive externalities, Storengy is working to continually improve the quality of its customer relationships with its historical stakeholders. Between 2017 and 2018, Storengy's Net Promoter Score (NPS) rose from -25 to +43 as a result of the implementation of a "Customer Pack" which, among other things, enables us to build customer loyalty by offering to co-construct commercial offers according to their needs.
